  • I'm so glad to see this cookbook and I've already marked several recipes to try as soon as possible - Homemade Labneh, Italian Halibut with Grapes and Olive Oil, and Sweet Carrot and Cardomom Torte are my list to make next weekend. I don't think anyone will be able to read this cookbook without starting to select recipes to make right away, or to mark for their next holiday or family gathering. I love Mediterranean food - the freshness, the great taste, and the healthy eating - and I love Amy Riolo's approach to Mediterranean food and the Mediterranean diet. With Amy, you will have recipes from the entire Mediterranean - North Africa and the Middle East in addition to Europe, and you will learn about the food history of the region and the history of specific recipes as well as a sense of culture, celebrations, and historical events. You will also get a lot of information about nutrition, health benefits, and how a recipe fits into the overall Mediterranean Diet. For instance, a recipe for Mediterranean Corn Bread explains that homemade bread can easily fit into a diet if it's made from whole grains and other healthful ingredients - a good message for those of us who love bread but want to avoid 'carbs'. This is a cookbook that has great recipes to try, but which also educates and encourages as well. For anyone who loves Mediterranean food this is a must addition to your cookbook collection, and for anyone who wants to eat a healthy diet this is a great way to go!

  • This is a very good cookbook, however, since I don't live anywhere near the Mediterranean I found many of the recipes incompatible with the ingredients I have available in my area. Substitutions are easy, however, and it has a wonderful selection of recipes. I would (and have) recommend it.
  • The food (and wine) of the Mediterranean region is renowned for its variety and wonderful flavors, as well as its health benefits. Amy Riolo has captured all that in a beautifully written collection of wonderful recipes, arranged in a unique way that emphasizes the healthy aspects of the Mediterranean diet without beating you over the head with that.

    I've tried several of the recipes since receiving my copy and all have been excellent. If you're at all interested in Mediterranean food, this is one book you have to have on your shelf.

I have found many of the recipes impractical, using ingredients that aren’t readily available from my local grocery store. But beyond that, I have made about seven or eight dishes and found them bland. Maybe it’s just me. I do have a preference for highly spiced foods. I will be giving this book away.
